Although I haven't seen a team sheet, I was told that Winterton had 7 first team regulars out last night, but nevertheless, Pikes were the much better team and deserved the win , which could and should have been by a greater margin.
Pikes took the lead early on after the most bizarre ref decision I have seen for a long time, Danny Brunton payed a superb ball into the box for Ricky Greening, who went to nod it forward into his run only for the defender to kick him in the ear.
A clear foul and penalty, no, he gave an indirect free kick.
Joe Connor hammered the ball at the keeper who made a great stop only for the rebound to fal to Zico on his RIGHT foot, and his shot found the top corner.
The ref also then bottled another decision on half time as winterton had a player brought down on the edge of the Pikes box, only for the ref to give another indirect free kick.
Pikes should have made more of the height advantage that they had at set pieces but Wintertons keeper was very good all night and looked to be a class act.
Second half saw Ricky calmly round the keeper one on one to slot home the second, a terrific goal that showed Ricky's class.
Pikes should have had a third in the last minute after a Steve Baxter effort was saved by keeper and post only for Ricky to slide in and somehow fail to make contact with the ball from a yard out.
Great result and a decent crowd as Winterton brought a lot of support with them.
Man of the match for me was Ricky, but in the first half Steve Roberts was outstanding, his passing was excellent.
