One reason for the poor gates at Pickering might be the lack of good public transport into the town which would deter groundhoppers and local people without cars from attending matches. In an effort to overcome this, may I suggest that:
(a) Alasdair puts on to the main website details of public transport (NYM Railway and normal train and bus services) from various points north and south (ie York) into Pickering.
(b) Local supporters living outside Pickering and who have cars make it known that they have a spare seat for matches. What about putting up a thread for this (and requests for lifts) on here? Presumably, vern managed to get the lift to Nantwich he pleaded for on the forum. If other fans did the same, or advertised their willingness to give lifts, it should increase the gate. Hopefully, given time, more people will want to attend matches and taxis or small buses can then be organized to take groups of supporters from the towns and villages around Pickering.
Any thoughts on these suggestions?

I agree with all the points put forward (are you haggling for a lift from France?), but the trouble being that I don't think there are that many fans from outside villages that show much of an interest. If anyone is interested, here are the links to the bus timetables. Coming From Scarborough/Helmsley: www.eyms.co.uk/timetable/scarborough/128MSSC.HTMLComing From Malton: www.yorkshirecoastliner.co.uk/Ease/servlet/EaseFrameset?siteID=1375However , I would like to add this point. I think that Lady Lumley's School/ local primary schools, should do more to encourage pupils to come along to support their local team. This could be in the form of Match Posters up on Noticeboards, and also teachers encouraging kids in football lessons. This would hopefully bring many more young fans along, ensuring the future of the fanbase. Would any current pupils (looking at you Vern) like to suggest something like this to the school?

i shall speak with my teachers this afternoon about the points yoiu have made i will see if notices can be put in the school and i shall also talk to the pe teachers to try and encourage them to encourage the pupils at the school who enjoy playing and watching footballto attendd the matches, however there are people that turn uyp to some matches but dont turn up to other matches, how can thiws be prevented and be changed so there are alot more regulars coming and then a few extra fans that cant get to every game but go to as many as they can, like chris in france!

Any luck with your teachers, vern? It's a very long time since I was at school but I wondered if, these days, there was any chance of the school helping to coordinate transport from the school to wherever the matches are being played through, say, a Pikes supporters club within the school supervised by a teacher or prefect? Just an idea.
